I wrote this SL application in a similar fashion as Josh's Crack.NET. I liked the way that the ViewModel is totally ignorant of the View, but I wanted the View to be just smart enough to know what view to load. The missing DataType property on the DataTemplate is easily worked around with the SL Extension's value converter, ResourceSelector. I am pretty happy with the result, but I am always open to how others may implement MVVM in SL.

Thanks for the simple example! However, I'm having trouble extending it. (e.g., handling the events using the SL toolkit's AutoCompleteBox control). I'm curious what you think about Nikhil's Silverlight.FX framework for MVVM as opposed to SL Extensions.

Nikhil in his blog (comments section), writes, "The command pattern tends to work well for Button controls, and methods with zero or one parameters, as far as I can tell.In my opinion, it isn't extensible/flexible enough (arbitrary controls, events, logical events, methods with more params, methods on arbitrary other view components that don't surface commands etc.) and requires the dev to create and surface commands (from a System.Windows.Input ns in their code that needs to be decoupled from presentation) rather than simply authoring some methods." -http://www.nikhilk.net/ViewModel-Pattern-DLR.aspx
